Tom On Location: Put people before projects, use extra funds to suspend electric bill tax for six months.

The council last week approved the rolled back millage rate that I have been advocating for all year. This is great news, there will be no property tax increase this year for residents who have been here for two years or more. Unfortunately, our electric bills have gone through the roof and the city taxes us 10% on our electric cost.

The city is receiving a $5.5 Million windfall from our electric bill. Guess what the first thing the city thought about when they figured this out…what we can spend it on, instead of how we can give this back to the taxpayers that are struggling with high inflation.

I am recommending to the Council they suspend the Public Service tax for six months. There is no need for this tax windfall to the city, this money will serve you better if it’s in your pocket. The final hearing on the FY2023 Budget is September 22 at 5:00 pm at City Hall. I will be speaking for this tax reduction, all are welcome. Join me as I fight to keep more money at home to help your families during this recession. The City doesn’t need it and you do!
